If you were concerned about the quality of democratic elections in the United States (and there is plenty of good reason to be), consider the case of Zimbabwe.
A new report out by the Zimbabwe Election Support Network, and independent watchdog association, finds that 27 percent of registered voters in the country are dead. Not only that, the Telegraph reports that the organization’s findings
revealed 2,344 people born between 1901 and 1909 aged between 101 and 110 years old…It also revealed nine people born between 1890 and 1900 aged between 111 and 120 years old. There were 93 children below one year old.
These data are especially egregious for a country where the average life expectancy is forty-four years of age.
Accusations of vote rigging are nothing new in Zimbabwe, but the revelation that nearly a third of all registered voters are no longer alive or not old enough to pull the lever in a voting booth is alarming. Worse still, absolutely nothing is going to be done about it before this year’s referendum on the future of the “coalition” government currently in power. According to the Associated Press, “Zimbabwe's electoral commission says a lack of funds will stop it drawing up a clean voters’ list this year.”
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS POST! IT'S GREAT SAYING.....
